Nelson Ted Bernard -- This scar on my left side is from where I retained fluid in my lungs and they had to do lung surgery, and there were two things that occurred as a result of that. While I was out with a 40 percent chance of living I spoke to God, and while I was under I saw the face of my future wife, Jennifer. When we finally got together it was kinda of funny because when she had her bathing suit on and we were walking so you could see our backs, it looked like both of our scars made a big ol' smile. She died a few years ago from undetermined causes. She was the love of my life. Then the one on the side, the smaller one here, is when I was being operated on for my left elbow. The Doctors came out and saw the birthmark on my side and thought it could be cancerous, and they asked my Mom if it would be O.K. if they cut it off, and it wouldn’t cost very much more, and my Mom said, "Of course". All the girls loved the birthmark, so I was very upset. I was upset about that.
