Research

My research focuses on issues of culture, politics and violence in global politics and subjective life. I have recently published on issues of war, sovereignty, democracy, human rights, and the cultural politics of climate change. I have a special interest in the work of Jacques Derrida, particularly in the way it can help us re-consider cultural politics.

Research Supervision

I am keen to supervise Higher Degree Research theses on any topics relevant to my research, and to cultural theory and cultural studies more generally, especially (but not only) the work of Jacques Derrida and Michel Foucault, contemporary global politics, subjectivity, and sexuality.

I have supervised projects on a broad range of topics, including the cultural politics of tattooing, masculinity and the work of Jean Genet, representations of cannibalism, cultural production in response to the HIV/AIDS crisis in North America, the literary theory of Jacques Lacan, the cultural studies of martyrology, the construction of whiteness, the cultural studies of tourism, the philosophy of Luce Irigaray, and the relationship between modernity, postmodernity and the contemporary.
