Undergraduate Studies
Programs of Study
Students studying for any degree program at Macquarie University can enrol in CCS units. Most CCS students however, are completing a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Cultural Studies (BA; MCST) degree.
The major differences between the B.A. and the BA; MCST degree programs are:
- the BA;MCST degree program requires the completion of a range of Media Studies (MAS) units as well as CCS (CUL) units. (See B.A. in Media and Cultural Studies for further detail.)
- academic transcripts for the BA;MCST clearly state that a Media and Cultural Studies 'major' is part of the degree program, while B.A. academic transcripts do not outline what 'major' has been undertaken
- the different UAI entry requirements:
Year |
B.A. |
BA; MCST |
|---|---|---|
| 2006 | 83.15 | 83.40 |
| 2005 | 85.10 | 85.00 |
| 2004 | 86.00 | 86.10 |
| 2003 | 84.80 | 85.80 |
| 2002 | 83.55 | 85.00 |
Upon completion, both B.A. and BA;MCST graduates are awarded a B.A. degree.
Students in the Bachelor of Media, Bachelor of International Communication and Bachelor of Creative Arts degree programs are also often enrolled in CCS units.
Under the BA degree program, students can undertake the following ‘majors’ in Critical and Cultural Studies:
- Critical and Cultural Studies
- Writing and Performance
- Interdisiplinary Cultural Studies
- Drama Studies
- Performance Drama
The above ‘majors’ are defined in the Macquarie University Handbook of Undergraduate Studies as ‘Programs of Study’, and are listed as the CUL03—CUL10 Programs of Study .
Students in the BA;MCST degree program undertake the Media and Cultural Studies A or B ‘majors’ (CUL01-CUL02 Programs of Study).
